Tree Appreciator

Tool: Tree Appreciator Another game experiment with Claude. This one used the default Claude iPhone app (chat mode, not Claude Code mode) where I prompted Claude Opus 5.5 Max with: Build a three js game called "Tree appreciator" - it shows you two algorithmically generated trees and the game mechanics is about appreciating the differences between them. Think hard about how to make sure it is both fun and beautiful. Somewhat embarrassingly given my recent talk , I've found that telling Opus 5.5 "make sure it is fun" works uncomfortably well. In this case Claude crunched for 3 hours and 7 minutes before retuning a cosy little spot-the-difference game with music and animation and achievements that's quite compelling to play. AI is mass decompiling games. That's both awesome and scary.

AI is mass decompiling games. That's both awesome and scary. Indie game developer Popcar talks about the recent wave of AI-powered decompilation of existing games, enabling weird mashups between existing games, and producing a boom in game preservation projects to get old games working on new hardware (often in a browser using WebAssembly). I like how this piece captures both the positives and the negatives of this new development: Most people already realized the scary part by now. If AI can decompile games and software, then the entire tech industry is about to explode. Anybody can decompile other software and use it any way they'd like, and nobody can stop them. Companies can steal from competitors. Your paid game or app can be open-sourced against your will. This isn't exclusive to old

The best feature of Apple’s HomeView might be its simplicity

I'm just going to come right out and say it. I love the approach Apple has taken with the HomeView. I think it's the shared, always-available household interface that my family might finally use. Is Apple's first smart display my dream smart home dashboard? No. But is it the right product for Apple Home at […]

The AI race is back on

Last week, Anthropic and OpenAI looked like they had the AI race to themselves, pulling ahead with increasingly powerful models that left their rivals in the dust. Google seemed hopelessly far behind, while Meta, despite spending billions to revive its floundering AI ambitions, had yet to establish itself as a serious contender. Even the latest […]

As a TV enthusiast, I was hoping for more from the Apple TV 4K

It's been four long years since the last Apple TV 4K was released, and in that time there have been lots of hopes and dreams for features in whatever comes next. A new chip, 4K/120Hz support, audio passthrough, a remote locator, better home control integration - the 2022 Apple TV 4K is a great box, […]

YouTube sticks new labels on AI-generated songs

YouTube is adding a "Made with AI" label to tracks that were "altered or fully generated" using AI, with a similar approach to its existing process for applying AI labels to videos. It doesn't sound like this will apply to any and all use of AI tools in making music, but according to YouTube, it […]

Asking for a friend: who is the most cracked brand designer you know?

Open on X ↗

Cyber is going to be one of the biggest spaces for AI agents in the future. Obviously the risks of software exploits and the attack surface area increases 100 fold due to the ability for agents to work through any crack to find what they’re looking for. But this goes the other way as well. The ability to have agent swarms review every line of code, test any number of permutations of exploits, and research any incident faster than humans as they happen, will be a huge boost in how we secure systems in the future. Cyber has always been a category where it’s hard to keep up with (and triage) all the incoming risks, alerts, and changes in the enterprise and across all system. You can never hire enough people or work through the backlog of all known risks. Agents actually give you a chance finally to have far better coverage of this. This is going to be a huge opportunity as well because we’ll see plays at the labs, data providers, the layer of the network and firewall, identity, devices and endpoints, SDLC, and even how we protect our data in the enterprise. Lots of interesting dimensions to cyber at the moment.
